Geography
At St Matthias we:
Aspire to deliver an exciting and thought-provoking geography curriculum which inspires our pupils to develop a curiosity and fascination about the ever-changing world in which they live.
Believe that our curriculum should give children incremental knowledge about the world and recognise the great differences in its environments, landscapes, cultures, economies and the links between them as well as an understanding of the different processes that create and affect them.
Achieve these goals by delivering carefully planned and engaging lessons that teach and develop in our children firmly embedded locational knowledge and geographical skills that are progressive and transferable.
At St Matthias children will have the opportunity to:
- Locate places using a range of maps and atlases.
- Complete enquiry based learning activities to gain a sense of perspective.
- Immerse themselves in geographical fieldwork, using a range of resources.
- Visit or experience through workshops or trips, a range of different locations and learn about the cultures and traditions within these places.
- Make cross-curricular links in order to consolidate learning and understanding of the world we live in.
- Enhance their knowledge of their own local community and the amazing physical and human features that we have in Malvern.
